The 50th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan Winter Games was originally scheduled for February 2022. Due to restrictions from the pandemic, the games were postponed and planned to be held in February of 2023.
They began with the opening ceremonies held in Regina Sunday, February 19, the games themselves starting on a cold, windy Monday, February 20.
The games will run for seven days in total, with the closing ceremonies Saturday, February 23, at 4 o’clock. Participants come from 9 districts throughout the Province of Saskatchewan. They will participate in 16 sports.
A tremendous effort from organizing committees and volunteers has gone into the preparation for these games.
Venues include REAL, City of Regina Fieldhouse, Caledonian Curling Club, Highland Curling Club, Qu’Appelle Valley Nordic, Douglas Park Trails, Mission Ridge, Glencairn Bolodrome, and the University of Regina, providing both a sports venue and the athlete’s village.
The games are open to the public for viewing; passes can be purchased at each venue. Additional photos are available on the website at: saskgames.ca/winter
