Lumsden Alumni Flag Football Game

First Alumni game played by Lumsden Devils football team

On Saturday, June 10, the Lumsden High School Devils football team played a preseason scrimmage following their football camps. Afterwards, the Lumsden Devils football Alumni hosted the first Alumni Flag Football game with players from previous graduating years, including some in their 40s.

The alumni players were sorted into two teams, black jerseys and white jerseys. Each jersey presented to a player had their name and graduating year printed on the back. The final score for the game was 22-12 for the white team. The game was held to raise field maintenance funds and purchase additional equipment for the Devils football teams. Football administration is looking into holding an annual alumni event, as this one was very well received.

Luke Dunville, a teacher at Lumsden High School, coaches both the junior and senior football teams. Working with coach Dunville is Carla Cooper as team manager, Kelsey Peterson is the Defensive Coordinator, Lorne Wilson, Jason Johns, Brian Skidmore, and Sean Pearce are defensive assistants. Spencer Mack, Adin Clark, Connor Eberle and Luke Robertson make up offensive assistants.

Field Technicians are Verne Barber and Nash Barber. Aaron Sklar did a fantastic job as the Alumni game announcer, and Nash Barber filmed the game. There were many local businesses who sponsored the alumni game, as well as parents, family members and volunteers who took on jobs such as selling 50/50 tickets, Lumsden Devil Merchandise and holding a barbeque for a food and drink sale.

The weather for the day could not have been better, and a great time was had by all who attended.
