RM Mckillop - Council Meeting - April 6, 2023
April 6th, 2023
The request at the last regular meeting of Council by Councillor Howard Arndt as a “point of procedure.” “Given that you are the Chair of this meeting, and given that we do put it on there,” Arndt pointed to the Zoom camera, which included Councillor Mark Strong, who was attending via Zoom, “and people like Mark are attending, we should either move the camera or you should sit at the head of the table as the chair so people can see who is leading the meeting.”
Councilor Whitrow, who sits in the camera’s field of vision as the head, said he didn’t have a problem moving if the Reeve wanted to take his place.
“Well, I’ve been doing this since 2019 and we started recording in 2020...I’d say we just leave it. The Chair has the role of being the chair, but the requirement to be visible? Well, we are not in a room where we can all be visible,” said Schmidt.
A member of the Zoom gallery pointed out in the chat the camera was pointed toward the ceiling, leaving Reeve Schmidt and Councilor Gilbert out of view of the camera.
Councilor Arndt noted that everybody should be visible in the meeting “and especially the chair, because they are the face of the RM.”
The meeting moved on without any changes. During the open forum, the gallery member brought up the topic again, asking if the camera could be adjusted. The Reeve said they originally were going to put the tv on the side wall, but it couldn’t support it. A/CAO Camille Box explained the camera was located on top of the television so that Council could see it. She said she would try to make adjustments.
