You may have seen our fundraising through a Facebook online auction, or maybe you were at the steak fry in Jansen, where we were able to raise more money for our ramp.
First of all, we want to thank everyone who has participated and given a donation of their time or money towards this ramp project. We are thankful, and we are excited to have a building that is accessible to everyone.
Now, besides it just making sense that we should have a building that is accessible to everyone, the reasoning behind it goes further than simply getting with the times and putting in a ramp because it is the right thing to do. It is part of our DNA, part of who we are as Jesus' followers.
When we think about Jesus’ life on earth, He was the type of person who reached out to the people society overlooked. He was the type of person who reached out to those who were forgotten. He was the type of person who noticed those people who other people chose to look away from in society. I’m not saying that someone’s ability to use stairs is what makes them welcome in our gathering or not. What I am saying is just the opposite. We are making it our goal and our mission to open up these doors to anyone who wants to participate in any of our events.
We also recognize that our building is used for more than just Sunday morning services, youth nights, Bible studies, or even our Saturday morning coffee times. We also use the building for things like community playrooms, music festivals, graduations, birthday parties, funerals and a wide variety of other events in our community where a larger space is needed.
We want our building to represent God’s heart for all people. God loves everyone, and He wants everyone to be welcomed into His community.
