Saskatchewan’s creative menu includes everything from wheat straw weaving and collaborative community murals to youth improv workshops and an Indigenous storytelling festival.
This year, Culture Days will commemorate the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation by solely featuring events and activities that promote Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.
“It may be more important than ever for people in Saskatchewan to come together to share these types of enriching cultural experiences this year,” says Dean Kush, CEO, SaskCulture and member of the National Culture Days Board of Directors. “Culture is the bedrock of every human being and Culture Days will provide the opportunity to bring us all together to learn, to share and to understand each other better, particularly with respect to Truth and Reconciliation.”
Culture Days in Saskatchewan was proclaimed by the province.
“Our Province is fortunate to have such strong, vibrant, inclusive communities,” Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Laura Ross said. “SaskCulture will continue their support of cultural organizations and initiatives working to help expand participation and access to culture and the arts.”
Many of the events and activities taking place in the province are supported through SaskCulture’s Hub sponsorship program. First introduced in 2020, the sponsorship opportunity has seen a marked increase in interest from community cultural organizations wanting to hold Culture Days events and activities, with many planning to honour Truth and Reconciliation by partnering with First Nations artists, cultural workers and communities.
All Culture Days events and activities can be found online at www.culturedays.ca. “Everyone is encouraged to check out the activities that are taking place in their communities, find virtual activities to join in from their own home or space, and learn more about Truth and Reconciliation,” says Kush. SaskCulture’s Hub sponsorship program is supporting activities hosted by community partnerships in the Battlefords, Eastend, Hague, Kelvington, Lloydminster, Lumsden, Melfort, Mossbank, Oxbow, Porcupine Plain, Prince Albert, Regina, Regina Beach, Saskatoon, Shaunavon, Shellbrook, Swift Current, Warman, Weyburn, and Yorkton.
